Short-Term Insomnia Treatment

I accept self-referrals and referrals from medical and psychological professionals to treat patients with insomnia.
This treatment is brief, usually 6-8 sessions over a several month period, and is limited to the treatment of insomnia. Patients who are already under the care of a psychologist, clinical social worker or physician, may continue those treatments while seeing me for insomnia. If there is a need for longer-term treatment of other psychological issues not directly related to insomnia, I can refer you to an appropriate provider for additional treatment.

Typical Sleep Problems That I Treat

  • Difficulty falling asleep at night
  • Middle of the night awakenings
  • Waking up too early
  • Erratic or irregular sleep (broken sleep)
  • Needing sleeping pills, other medications or supplements to sleep
  • Feeling tired during the day but still unable to get good sleep at night

How CBT-I Helps

I specialize in CBT-I, or Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia, a scientifically proven, highly effective treatment for chronic insomnia. It is a drug-free approach and the benefits remain long after treatment ends. It reveals underlying causes of insomnia and is often effective in a short period of time. CBT-I identifies and then helps you change the unhelpful behaviors and thoughts that maintain insomnia.
Research shows that this treatment results in:

  • More sleep
  • Better quality sleep
  • Improved daytime functioning
  • Less reliance on sleep medications

The Gold Standard For Insomnia

CBT-I is strongly recommended as the initial treatment for chronic insomnia by The American College of Physicians. It is also recommended as a first line treatment for chronic insomnia by The National Institutes of Health and The American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
