I collaborate with primary care physicians, medical specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, physical therapists, sleep centers and sleep physicians, throughout New Jersey. I utilize cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapies to treat both sleep disorders and many chronic medical conditions (see below). You will receive reports and other communications to keep you up-to-date on your patients’ treatment progress. For many patients with chronic pain or illness, a multidisciplinary treatment approach that address the full spectrum of biopsychosocial issues leads to improved outcomes.
I provide CBT-I to patients with primary insomnia, insomnia due to sleep apnea (usually with concomitant CPAP or oral appliance therapy), insomnia due to chronic pain, insomnia due to other medical conditions, hypersomnia, and CPAP intolerance. CBT-I is considered the gold standard for treating insomnia and also promotes improved CPAP utilization and adherence where insomnia persists. It leads to improved outcomes for patients with concomitant depression, anxiety and other medical conditions.
CHRONIC PAIN AND ILLNESS MANAGEMENT:
I partner with primary care physicians and specialists to help manage patients with chronic illness. Research indicates that adding behavioral interventions for primary care patients results in improved clinical outcomes. I utilize empirically supported interventions such as CBT, mindfulness-based approaches, heart rate variability or HRV biofeedback, coherent breathing training, motivational enhancement training, pacing instruction, activity management and psychoeducation. Some of the conditions that I have expertise in treating with psychological therapies are: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, neuropathic pain, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, IBS, IBD, Lyme Disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, obesity, chronic subjective dizziness, tinnitus and hyperacusis.
